During the month of April, Tanbridge students have been busy gathering items for the Foster Packs Program in support of the Calgary Humane Society.  Thank you to all of the Tanbridge families for being so generous with this outreach program.  The Calgary Humane Society thanks you and the anmials do too!  Another successful program in support of those in need!

                                      Tanbridge Acadmey Parents' Association

                                      Picture
Tanbridge Academy Parents’ Association (TAPA) has been working to enrich our school community since Tanbridge first started operations. Every year a small dedicated group of parents has raised funds from the annual golf tournament and other activities such as Fundscrip to purchase extra equipment for classrooms and school events.

At our next meeting on May 7th (3:45 p.m. at school) we will be discussing how we can best help with the move forward to the new campus by using our funds to buy important equipment such as lockers. Our golf tournament date has been set for September and a team is needed to start planning for this important fundraiser. TAPA needs parents to come forward to ensure the future of our parent association, to capture some of the enthusiasm and excitement that has been shown in our school as we move forward to a new site. Please think about coming to the meetings or if you can’t make the meetings letting Darren or one of the teachers know that you are interested in helping out. Without TAPA many of the things that make Tanbridge a unique program for our children will not be able to go ahead. We look forward to hearing from you.

The TAPA Annual General Meeting will take place on June 13th at 7:00pm.

                                      Intramural Action

On Friday, April 27th, Intramural action was in full swing at Tanbridge.  Charades brought strategic acting and many laughs. All of the Titans were great sports and had fun with this team challenge. The winner for the month of April was Atlas!

                                      Tanbridge Europe Trip 2013

As many of you know, we have begun a tradition at our school of organizing and planning a sports trip to Europe for our Tanbridge students every two years. The first time, we travelled to Germany in 2009 and played in an international hockey tournament against teams from all over the world. Last spring, about 20 students visited Czech Republic, Austria and Italy for some hockey games and soccer training sessions with local teams in each of the countries, as well as cultural tours and activities. It was a fantastic experience for all players and families.
For 2013, Mr. Hart has been in touch with the tour company, Moore Sports Tours, that organized our travels last year, regarding the possibilities for our spring break in 2013.  The preliminary plans for a trip to Finland/Sweden that would include both hockey and soccer events are underway.  Contact Mr. Hart for further information and if the Europe trip for 2013 is of interest to you and your famliy!

Below are a few pictures of the Tanbridge Titans from the Europe Trip in 2011 from Czech Republic, Austria, and Italy!

Over all the gymnasts at Tanbridge had an amazing year. Picture
After returning from spring break, the Grade 6 class took a trip to the Calgary Police Interpretive Centre to finish up their
unit on Evidence and Investigation. Students had been investigating a fictional crime in class by examining evidence, listening to suspect interviews, and just generally doing good police work! The visit to the Interpretive Centre involved students going over fingerprints, blood DNA, tire treads and other clues that the perpetrator left behind. Included in the trip were presentations on bullying, gangs, internet safety, substance abuse and domestic violence. Overall, the students got a small taste of what is involved in police investigations and were able to successfully identify the culprit!

On Tuesday, April 17th the grade 8 and 9 students had the exciting opportunity of taking-in one of the many sold-out shows at the 2012 Calgary Spoken Word Festival. Through spoken word poetry performances, the Junior High students were able to see that poetry is alive and vibrant.  The Festival brings the best SLAM and Spoken Word Artists in North America to Calgary.  The performances certainly inspired and energized the Tanbridge students to see the new world of poetry and the connection to present-day music.
The students had the unique opportunity of seeing Truth Is perform.  Truth recently opened for Canadian Hip Hop idol K-OS.  Ian Keteku, the 2010 World Poetry Slam champion, is a hometown boy with major talent.  He has also worked with K-OS and Wu Tang Clan.  Other performers to the stage were Regie Cabico and Chris Gilpin.

Mosaic Mania is one of the many creative art projects that the Tanbridge students have been dedicating their time to. It shows an underwater scene in which students can express the amazing scenes that they have seen while scuba diving, swimming, or at the park pond.  The artwork is displayed on the school walls with colour glimmering on the black paper.
Some of the pictures featured in this month’s newsletter are called city builder. The project consists of an odd number of buildings that focus on the vantage point. If you look carefully, you might be able to see where they’re coming from with an artistic view.

If so, you need to check out the boxes of uniform items in the Tanbridge staff room.  A TAPA member has been busying keeping them clean and tidy.  Please help yourself to anything that will be of use!
