Calgary Humane Society - The Foster Pack Program

                                      Picture
On Tuesday, April 10th a representative from the Calgary Humane Society visited Tanbridge to educate the students about their services and programs.  We were introduced to some of the pet residents at the shelter and the care that they receive during their stay.
The Calgary Humane Society presentation kicked off our Supply Drive for the 2011-2012 school year.
Working within homeroom classes, students have challenged one another to bring in supplies to support the ever-growing numbers of loving animals that visit the Humane Society.

Working as a class, the students will put together multiple Foster Packs that include:
Dry Cat or Dog Food (Science Diet Preferred) - the 3.5 lb bags are the perfect size
Cans of Wet Cat or Dog Good (Science Diet Preferred) - each pack will include 8-10 cans of food
                                      Toys (optional)

Thank you for helping the Calgary Humane Society Foster Program!

                                      Tanbridge Science Fair

The Tanbridge 2011-2012 Science Fair Presentations took place on March 22 for Grades 4 to 8 students.  The Tanbridge Science Fair is an opportunity for students to display their individual interests in the world of science and experimentation while allowing for further practice of their public speaking skills.  The students presented many remarkable, attractive projects.  We appreciate your hard work Titans; you make excellent scientists!

                                      Grade 6 Outdoor School

                                      Picture
The grade 6 students, along with Mr. Hart, travelled to Camp Chief Hector on March 13th to 16th to participate in the YMCA’s outdoor school.  Students had a great time as they got to explore the area around the camp. YMCA counselors led the students in activities, hikes, games, skits, songs and challenges that taught them about the environment, nature and other topics related to Grade 6 Science and Social Studies. The weather was fantastic for the full-day hike that we went on to learn more about the trees and forests in the area. Although spending a few days away from home is sometimes a little daunting, all students had a great time and came home with some new experiences and many stories!

                                      Safety Expo

                                      Picture
On Wednesday, March 20th, Tanbridge Students in grades 4 to 7 had the opportunity to visit the City of Calgary 2012 Safety Expo.  The Expo is designed for students to explore and take part in multiple interactive displays and attend workshops designed to educate them about making responsible decisions regarding their personal safety.  This was a great opportunity for the students to be reminded of the daily choices they make that affect their safety and the safety of others.

                                      Floor Hockey Tournament

                                      Picture
Once again Tanbridge hosted the CISAA 1J Floor Hockey Tournament at NSD.  There were 8 teams in the field including the Grade 7 Tanbridge Titans and the Grade 8/9 Tanbridge Titans.  After several hard fought games by both teams, including a heart-stopping shootout victory by the Grade 7’s in their Semi-final match up, the two Tanbridge teams met in the Championship final.  While the Grade 7s showed heart and energy, the superior size and skill of the Grade 8/9 team won out in the end.  Again an outstanding tournament with Tanbridge winning GOLD and SILVER….Great job
                                      Titans!

Next up on the Athletic calendar for the Titans is the start of the Junior High Soccer league. Watch for more information to come your way soon.

                                      2011-2012 Basketball Season Wrap-Up

                                      Picture
The Grade 7 basketball season ended very positively with the team picking up the Bronze medal in the Grade 7 Basketball League.  In the championship tournament we faced Glenmore Christian Academy and pulled out a close game.  Our second game was against West Island College who had beat us by 30 points in the regular season; the team played an excellent defensive game and we pulled off the upset to win our Pool and be the #1 seed going into the playoff round.  Unfortunately in the Semi-final game  against Rundle College we came up a little short, we fell behind early and with a furious comeback late in the second half we made it a game but couldn’t quite get all the way back.  In the Bronze medal game we again faced Glenmore Christian Academy; the game was never in doubt as we ran out to a commanding lead right off the start and won the game by 20 going away.  We had an outstanding season of learning and progress and the future of Tanbridge basketball looks to be in good hands.

                                      Kicking Horse Trip 2012

                                      Picture

February brought about the Fourth Annual Tanbridge Kicking Horse Trip.  Students in grades 6 through 9 travelled to Golden, British Columbia for two days of skiing and fun.  The weather was perfect and the conditions were excellent.  Thank you to the parent chaperones that joined us on our ski adventure and the Kicking Horse Resort Staff who continue to take such great care of us.

                                      Picture

Students in grades 4 and 5 had the opportunity to spend two days at Calgary Olympic Park in March for skiing and snowboarding lessons.  The instructors saw improvement in all of the students during their time at Calgary Olympic Park.  The students had a great time and it was perfect goggle-tan weather!
